The facts speak for themselves. LA has the nation’s worst traffic — a title held for 18 consecutive years. On our current trajectory, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) predicts an increase of congestion by as much as 100% in areas.
Meanwhile:
- Traffic congestion costs businesses & residents $10.7 billion annually - that’s approx. $1000 per person
- LA has America’s worst smog pollution, made worse by gridlocked cars & trucks and a dearth of viable public transit options
- The average driver wastes 93 hours per year stuck in traffic -almost four days!
- LA’s freeways are aging; they’re ranked the nation’s seventh worst freeway system
- LA is America’s second largest city and its residents & businesses deserve better!

Building L.A.’s Future was founded by David Murphy and Robert Carpenter. Our team leverages advocacy experience from a leading L.A. business advocacy group, from the White House, and from Capitol Hill. Read more about us.
We are advocates for highways and transportation, and are members of the National Alliance of Public Transportation Advocates (NAPTA). We recently returned from Washington, DC, where we were the only advocacy group from Los Angeles present at the American Public Transportation Association legislative conference and NAPTA meeting.
